Hi, Everyone,
This week my group will be showing a video called Black Hole? It’s a great film.
What are the messages you get from this film? Do you think the man got what he deserved? Did that help him? What would you have felt about the commercial if the man had gotten away7 with his crime? What do you think the black hole mean? What would you do with a black hole? When given great power how do you think most people will respond? Try to answer these
questions and tell us your thoughts about the film.

ReplyDeleteI think that the black hole represents opportunity. The man was given the black hole and after discovering its ability, he used it to acquire what was not his in the first place. This resembles the fact that some people misuse opportunities that they are given and end up being stuck which is same as what happened to the guy after being stuck in the safe.
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting video. It was really short and to the point, and I think the lack of dialogue emphasized the video. But, the message I got from it was that we shouldn't take advantage of situations, or to moderate your greed. I'd probably say that he got what he deserved, but it looks like he was just a 'man down on his luck' and tired of the same-old-same-old. The black hole probably represents opportunity. Honestly, I think that almost everyone would have done something similar if they had been in this situation, even if only to test its potential. I think that when people are given great powers, they will eventually corrupt them if left unchecked.
ReplyDeleteI’m a little disappointed we couldn’t get “Boundin” to work because I really like that video. However, pertaining to “Black Hole” when the man first used the black hole to go into the vending machine to get a snickers bar I thought this was going to be a snickers commercial. After I realized it wasn’t a commercial I thought the black hole represented greed and corruption. I think the video also hinted at the fact that while these are ways to make money you will eventually get caught as the man did in the safe. I think the fact that the man looked very run down and tired was a reference to the fact that it’s easy to succumb to greed and corruption when you are down on your luck. They may be a quick way to make money but eventually your luck will run out.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very interesting that the first thing the man did with the black hole was break into a vending machine. Although it was not a horrible thing to do, his mind initially went to stealing, which was taken further later in the video. He did not seem scared or weirded out by the fat that this piece of paper was a black hole. He simply accepted the craziness and went right ahead to use it to his advantage. I think the video is representing karma, relating to what people would do with something powerful when given the chance. He used it to commit a crime and I believe he got what he deserved. The black hole could have been a test to see if how he would respond to it. Personally, I would have been much more fascinated by the magical black hole itself, not what I could use it for. The black hole could have been used for something good or fun, but the greedy man ended up with nothing after trying to use it to his advantage.
ReplyDeleteThe results from the worker discovering the powers of the black hole reminded me of what many would do if they had such a power: steal or do “bad” things (for example: punch someone in the face). When asked what I would do if I had the power of invisibility for twenty four hours, one of the first things I thought was stuff that would benefit me personally. A power as basic as invisibility or the black hole to me can be difficult to effectively come up with good things to do with it versus benefitting ourselves. The situation the worker was in was especially important because if there were other individuals around him it probably would have made the decision or breaking into the room with the safe more challenging to make. It’s when you get a power that allows you to essentially “get away” with that makes you more incline to better yourself since typically you are confided by such rules and laws forbidding such actions. Lastly, did the guy deserve it? From what I saw in the video, yeah: he should have secured the tape better. However, it’s always funny how a picture(s) or words can make all the difference to the interpretation of the entire topic.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this short video was very interesting. In the beginning of the video, the man looked to be tried of working at his “dead-end” job. When he discovered the black hole in the paper and the strange ability that it had his spirits seemed to be lifted a little. I think he saw opportunity with the black hole. I thought it was odd that he went to the vending machine first but it made him satisfied for that one second, until he realized he could use the power of the black hole to do bad things. He might have been clever to open the “Do Not Enter” room and start taking money out of the locked safe but he was not smart at the same time. He was defiantly using the power to steal and I feel he was thinking this was going to get him out of this “dead-end” job but what it really did was put him in a dead end, literally.
ReplyDeleteThe message that I perceived from this video is that people are greedy. I think the man took advantage of discovering the "black hole" and then became someone he wasn't prior to the discovery, that being a thief. If the man had gotten away at the end of the commercial I would've been somewhat disappointed, and I don't think that should be the goal of any company's commercial (basically saying it's okay to do illegal acts under certain circumstances). I think the black hole represents the "dark side" of people, like the man who stole from the vending machine and all of that money. I also think it represents that people tend to take advantage of things sometimes. When given great power I think people can go one of two ways: either take full advantage of it and to not chance your ways, or to go the other route and take it for granted and do everything you can to make yourself better rather than others around you.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like more people now a days want to take the easy way out or find a simpler route to an easier lifestyle and that's what it was in this case as well. It may have started out as curiosity and innocent but once he discovered what he could do he took advantage of the opportunity not thinking of what the consequences were and was careless. It is always easier to do things for ourselves when the reward is great but it is hard to supress those ideas when we know they are wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think this short video reveals the human nature, which is greedy brings no good. While the man find out the black hole could be used to break through various doors, he started from a vending machine. And after he confirmed about the usage of the black hole, he start to consider taking out money, which is pretty much everyone would thought of. The sad thing is that he does not know to stop when he already got amount of money. So that leads to the tragedy, which is beiing locked inside the box and run out of oxygen. I guess this little story wants to tell us that as human, we must not be greedy, or we will end up like the man in the cage.
ReplyDeleteI like the video pretty much. As far as I am concerned, the black hole represents the greed of one man. We are ravenous for power, fortune and all kinds of excellent things in the world. I don't think it's a wrong thing for human, but we have to learn to control ourselves. I think the maker of the video may also try to use the "black hole" to indicate that people are always being attracted to stuff that we desire to possess, and sometimes we get lost.
ReplyDeleteThis short clip was interesting how the title of the clip was called black hole and then the man really falls into the black hole. The clip highlights how people can get tempted and want more then what they have. The man first goes to the chocolate machine and grabs a chocolate and then he takes advantage of the powers and tries to steal the money. I think this is symbolizing how people who do bad things don't get caught with the little things but eventually ends up getting caught like burglars.
ReplyDeleteThe black hole stands for the hole on the paper, but it comes from the actual black hole. The real Black Hole absorbs the surrounding. In this film, it attracts people to crime. All people have unlimited desires, but you need to control them if it is unreasonable. Otherwise, you might be punished. Someone often wants to seek for the petty benefits and take advantages of others. So they will probably fail and be punished one day.
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I first saw this. The guy is such an opportunist. He used the hole to steal candy and then money because the black hole allowed him to take things by allowing him to move between objects. A black hole is suppose to be a vast region of space where nothing can escape, so it was funny when he got stuck in the safe while trying to steal the money.
ReplyDeleteI think the Black Hole represents desire in human nature. The guy is obviously upset at the beginning of the film. From his appearance, i guess he is just a normal employee working in a small office and he feels like he is stuck in his life with little hope. But then the Black Hole came, and he had a chance to get things for himself in a easy way so he decided to use it. First it is just a snickers bar because he was not sure how powerful that Black Hole is. Then, after he knew what he could do with the Black Hole, he decided to steal more valuabes from a safe box. I think this tells us that once your desire get out of control, your life will be controlled by your desire and you will eventually be stuck in it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most people said above. The black hole actually reflects the man’s unlimited inner desire for money. In China, there is an old saying” Man of noble character is keen on wealth but takes it justly”. Everyone has a desire for money, but we should get it in a proper way. The man in the video was too opportunistic. He tried to take money in an easy way without any efforts. That’s impossible and unjust, so he eventually got what he deserved and stuck in the safe. The video reminded me of “the curse of Hurun Rich List”. Huran Report is the most authoritative and influential rich list in China. There is an interesting phenomenon that people who rank high in Hurun Report will suffer a curve—If someone is listed in Hurun Report, in the following years, he/she will be arrested and sent to the jail because he/she will be found to make money by breaking the law. Again, such “curse” proves that people should seek for fortune properly; otherwise, they cannot avoid the punishment.
ReplyDeleteI think this video just goes to show how people are inherently greedy. He had the black hole and at first used it for petty things like stealing candy, but then his greed consumed him and he ended up locked in a vault. I think the video is also trying to say that in a way you lose your life when you allow yourself to be greedy. It's kind of like Scrooge and how when he became less greedy, people began to like him and he gained friends and a social life.
ReplyDeleteEveryone says they'll do things differently. If they found a twenty dollar bill on the floor, they say they would take it to guest services, leave it there, or something else instead of keep it. But when you're actually faced with the situation, you act in ways you thought you wouldn't. If I found the black hole, I'd probably have the same reaction in a sense. I'd be like "wow!". I won't deny I will think about taking things for myself like he did. The difference is he became exceptionally greedy and actually took these things - which is the point I'm trying to make and I think the video is trying to make. He went beyond the "norm" when trying to take all that money from the safe. Because of this, he was punished. I thought the message was clear: don't let greed overcome you, or you'll have to deal with consequences one way or the other.
